Dr. Carol Low has this to say about the importance of relaxation:“There are certain things that we all know. Too much stress is bad for you. Relaxation is good for you. But often we fail to use what we know. To maintain good health, it is important to decrease stress and take time each day just to relax. Relaxation frees the mind and body to expend energy on restorative functions. This not only helps you have a better perspective on the stressors in your life, but actually enhances the functioning of various systems in your body. Specific relaxation exercises can help you to make the best use of the time you set aside to relax, especially at times that are stressful.”
Learning to RELAX is an important art! Breath work helps immensely, soothing music, a long soak in a bath, candlelight, a massage or reflexology treatment, a walk in the park or perhaps a good book or movie ~ these do the trick for many people, but for others it is not so easy.
Here’s an interesting thought from James Tighe, “Take a look at a dog when it's resting. Its body is free of tension; its brain has switched off and has gone into peaceful mode. Because of our stressful lives, many human beings have lost the ability to do this, so we have to relearn how.”
True healing means restoring the harmony between all our bodies:emotional, spiritual, mental and physical. True health is keeping that balance.Re-learning how to relax can be done effectively through various forms of meditation and yoga (which means “to unify”). Once again, the feeding, nurturing, and appreciating of all our bodies, in my experience, is key.
Besides RELAXATION make room in your life for RECREATION also. It is critical to let your creative side out to play ~ take off on a vacation, play a game, go visit friends and family ~ again, whatever brings you JOY and helps to “re-create” you. Remember, you are important, you matter, you get to play the game “Magical Reality Creation”! Have FUN!
